DIY Rubber Band Jar

Hi everyone! I know I’ve been away for a while now. Finishing school online was definitely challenging and took up so much of my time. That being said, I tried to make it a point to do something creative, no matter how small to keep myself from getting too stressed about school. So, I decided to share some of these projects with you all, starting with this DIY rubber band jar.

The first project I did was honestly a really small project. I basically just wanted the jar to fit in with the rest of the decor in my house, and the red lid was not it. I will admit I forgot to take pictures along the way, but it is a pretty simple DIY so I hope you can visualize without the photos.

My rubber band jar before painting the lid.

The Steps:

  1. The first thing I did was right “rubber bands” on the little chalkboard sticker on the jar. My jar came with the sticker already on it. I used a white paint pen to write.
  2. The next thing I did was I took the lid off the rubber band jar and painted it white. I knew because of the color I wanted the lid to be, the red had to go. I needed a good plain base, so I used white acrylic paint. Using a brush I painted a thin layer. I let it dry for an hour. Then I painted another layer of white since there was still quite a bit of red showing through.
  3. After the white paint was dry I used a teal colored watercolor and painted the lid. I loved the color and how it is not a solid color.
  4. While the paint was still wet I used some clear glitter and sprinkled it on top. I LOVE glitter and anything that sparkles, so this was a must do step for me.
  5. I let the watercolor dry for about 3 hours, just because I wanted to make sure it was completely dry before this next step. Once everything was dry, I sprayed the lid of the rubber band jar with a clear coat spray paint. I figured this would help to keep the glitter on for longer while not taking away the shiny aspect like Mod Podge does.
The final product of this DIY.

And there you go, a DIY rubber band jar! While this probably wasn’t the best DIY every written, I hope it gave you the inspiration to do something creative. Quarantine has been a real pain for me since traveling is such a passion, but it is necessary to keep everyone safe. I hope to share some more (better written) DIYs with you soon!
